Parmesan Herb Seasoned Pretzels

These deliciously tasty Parmesan Herb Seasoned Pretzels, just like our legendary Garlic Ranch Pretzels, are highly addictive! So flavorful, crunchy and savory--you won't be able to eat just one!

parmesan herb seasoned pretzels

In case you missed it, I am obsessed with homemade seasoned pretzels. They are ridiculously easy to make, only have a few ingredients, and taste way better than anything you'll buy from the store (plus so much cheaper).

When I'm craving that salty, seasoned crunch with a little extra pep in its step, I go to my spice rack and make these wickedly good Parmesan Herb Seasoned Pretzels.

What sets this recipe apart from others is an extra special seasoning ingredient called Get a Pizza This--a delicious pizza seasoning blend made by McCormick with onion, red pepper, oregano, garlic and sea salt. It is by far my favorite pizza seasoning and it takes these savory seasoned pretzels to a whole new level.

Although the pizza seasoning adds a TON of robust flavor to this recipe, I wouldn't necessarily say it makes the pretzels taste like pizza (though it sure does make the kitchen smell like one is baking in the oven!). It definitely adds more of an Italian seasoning/flavor kind of vibe though--especially when paired with the grated parmesan.

Now, if you know me, I like flavor--and lots of it--especially on my salty snacks. So when I first made this tasty seasoned pretzels recipe, I wasn't satisfied with only pizza seasoning and grated parmesan. I added my tried and true zesty ranch packet into the mix (the star of Garlic Ranch Pretzels), along with a little extra garlic powder to take things up a notch.

Whip that all together with a little bit of vegetable oil (but feel free to use olive oil if you prefer), bake the pretzels in the oven, and you'll have one heck of a savory seasoned pretzel snack that's perfect for tailgating, football watch parties, or simply an afternoon snack just because you want to treat yourself to something special.

Why You'll Love It

Only 6 ingredients- Yup, you read that right. This delicious, savory snack is bursting with flavor from just a few, simple ingredients!

Super easy recipe- Mix the seasonings, drizzle on the oil, coat the pretzels and bake them--that's it!

Makes a great gift- Save one batch for yourself and then gift others to friends and family. You'll have instant elevated relationship status! (You can even ditch the cookies one year and hand out these savory pretzels instead!)

Ingredients for Parmesan Herb Seasoned Pretzels

For a full list of ingredients and measurements, see the printable recipe card below

  • broken sourdough pretzels--I prefer sourdough for the extra tang and I like the broken pieces because the flavoring sticks really well
  • dry ranch dressing mix
  • garlic powder
  • pizza seasoning-- I really like McCormick's Get a Pizza This seasoning, sold by a large online retailer as well as a large brick and mortar store (in a pinch, use another brand or a combination of Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes)
  • grated parmesan cheese--provides an extra tang and saltiness; avoid using freshly grated
  • cooking oil --I use vegetable, but feel free to use olive oil if you prefer

How to Make Parmesan Herb Seasoned Pretzels

Click here for a list of equipment needed for this recipe.
  • large mixing bowl
  • small mixing bowl
  • large, spouted glass measuring cup with handle
  • measuring spoons
  • mixing spoons
  • large rimmed baking sheet/pan
  • spatula

Getting Started

Preheat your oven to 225 degrees.

Empty the entire bag of pretzels into your large mixing bowl. Break up any really large pieces with your hands.

Next, mix all the dry seasonings and parmesan together in a small bowl.

Measure the cooking oil in a large spouted measuring cup. Then add the seasoning to this measuring cup and stir well. The seasonings will naturally want to sink to the bottom of the cup, so it is important to mix this thoroughly so you don't end up with a clump.

Pour the oil mixture over the pretzels. Use a large mixing spoon to mix. Spend a little bit of time here to make sure all of the pretzels are coated with the oil and seasonings. This is really important because if some of the pretzels don't get coated, they will dry out in the oven, and we don't want that!

Now it's time to create some pretzel magic!

Line your large rimmed baking sheet with heavy duty foil (I do this for easier clean up). Then spread the pretzels onto the baking sheet in a single layer so that they're not overlapping. Drizzle any remaining liquid from the bowl over the pretzels. Trust me: you don't want to let any of that goodness go to waste!

Bake the seasoned, coated pretzels in a preheated 225 degree oven. They will bake in there for 1 hour. Every 20 minutes, stir them gently with a spatula. Stir them once more when they are done, then allow them to cool on the pan for 10-15 minutes before transferring to a container.

Storing Parmesan Herb Seasoned Pretzels

These seasoned pretzels won't last for long! Try them with your favorite adult beverage-- or simply by themselves. Your taste buds will be delighted either way!

Store in an airtight container. Enjoy within one week. No need to refrigerate (pretzels taste best when stored at room temperature).

Parmesan Herb Seasoned Pretzels
  • 1 (16 oz.) bag broken sourdough pretzels
  • 2 tbsp dry ranch dressing mix (or 1 sleeve)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1-2 tbsp pizza seasoning (McCormick's Get a Pizza This recommended)
  • 2/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 3/4 cup cooking oil (vegetable or olive oil preferred)
Instructions
  1. Preheat your oven to 225 degrees Farenheit.

  2. Empty entire bag of pretzels into large mixing bowl.  Set aside.

Break up any really large pieces with your hands.
  3. Next, mix all the dry seasonings and parmesan together in a small bowl.

  4. Measure cooking oil in a large, spouted measuring cup. Then add the seasonings mixture to this measuring cup and stir well.

The seasonings will naturally want to sink to the bottom of the cup, so it is important to mix this thoroughly so you don't end up with a clump.
  5. Pour the oil mixture over the pretzels. Use a large mixing spoon to mix.

Spend a little bit of time here to make sure all of the pretzels are coated with the oil and seasonings. This is really important because if some of the pretzels don't get coated, they will dry out in the oven.
  6. Spread the pretzels onto the baking sheet in a single layer so that they're not overlapping. Drizzle any remaining liquid from the bowl over the pretzels.

Line your large rimmed baking sheet with heavy duty foil or parchment paper for easier clean up.
  7. Bake pretzels in preheated 225 degree oven for 1 hour. Stir pretzels on pan with spatula every 20 minutes. Stir once more when pretzels come out of the oven. Allow pretzels to rest for 10 minutes before transferring to container.

Stir gently so you don't disturb the foil or parchment paper.
  8. Store in an airtight conatiner for up to 1 week.

Note

Can't find pizza seasoning? Substitute 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning with 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes.

I use Hidden Valley Ranch's dry seasoning mix.

You can buy any brand of sourdough pretzels, but I strongly suggest trying to buy broken ones. It cuts out a lot of the grease work!
