Family Inspired Goodness
The recipes found here are meals and treats that my family loves (along with a bunch of salads that I love). I live with three picky eaters who sometimes like to eat the same things, but most often all like to eat different things or different ingredients in things. That can be tricky and they are my test subjects (as well as my motivation) for this site.
Half of my house likes onions. Most of us like tomatoes. Some of us like garlic, but I promise all of us like flavor! And just in case you haven’t noticed by now, all of us are obsessed with CHEESE! We also really enjoy American style pub fare and of course, comfort foods, so a lot of dishes, sandwiches and sides on here are inspired by that.
I almost forgot to mention that we also adore chocolate and cookies (seriously how can you not like them???) and oddly enough, there’s not as much quibbling around here surrounding the ingredients in them. Hmmm.
What you won’t find here
- Complicated, incomplete or untested recipes.
- Anything that involves yeast or the rising of bread of any kind.
- Pot roasts or breading and deep frying anything.
- Seafood, tofu, or walnuts.
- Judgment.
What you will find here
- Beginner and intermediate recipes that are easy to follow and are honest about how long they take to make. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never been able to follow a 30 minute recipe in its entirety within 30 minutes. I’m not putting you through that either.
- A lot of low calorie and low fat ingredients. This includes salad dressings, condiments, cheeses and meats. I use a lot of these when I cook because I like to save on fat and calories where I can. I also find that a lot of these ingredients taste almost as good and sometimes better than their full value counterparts. Rest assured, I know there are some exceptions to this rule and I will use them when I need to.
- Shortcuts. I use store bought dressings, condiments, sauces, bacon flavored bits, frostings and various other mixes and premade options when I can. There’s so many good ones already made out there for us, so why spend time trying to reinvent the wheel?
- Humor. I have a sense of one. I think it makes life as well as kitchen time more enjoyable.
