A bit more about me
It all started with a cookie- an oatmeal raisin cookie to be precise. I was young. I was ready. And I was standing in my mother’s kitchen. I loved cookies (what kid doesn’t?) and I was fed up with the dry, store bought ones. I wanted to make my own. And so, when I saw the recipe for an oatmeal raisin cookie on the back of a generic oats package, I just knew I had to try it. I didn’t know exactly what I was doing (I definitely didn’t), but the power of a delicious homemade oatmeal raisin cookie was all the motivation I needed.
So we got the ingredients and I gave it a try. And then again. And again. And again (you get the idea). Then finally, I had it perfected: a chewy, buttery, melt in your mouth oatmeal raisin cookie miracle. I started making them for friends and family. They were handed out at Christmas, birthdays and were part of get well soon cheer. They actually became a little bit famous (at least within a five mile radius of Northeast Philadelphia).
That’s when I knew I was a baker. I branched off from there making other cookies, cakes, pies, muffins and more. I was unstoppable. Then I started working, went to college and… okay, this big build up in story probably makes you think that I went to culinary school or something fancy like that. But I didn’t. While I pursued other things and adventures, my baking hobby took a backseat and patiently waited for me to return.
Family life and kitchen rebirth
Thank goodness I met my husband. While we were dating, I learned that valuable lesson that a lot of us hear and eventually learn: the way to a man’s heart is through a good cookie. I quickly realized he not only liked my cookies, he liked all my other creations too. That’s right, I wooed him with all my baking delights. (We’re keeping it clean here and I’m not giving dating advice, but the cookie part sure does help.) Then we got married, had our two boys and I became motivated to learn how to make more than just sweet treats.
Fueled by that desire and a budding Pinterest infatuation, I learned that I could cook meals as well! Plus I could create salads (lots of yummy salads), soups, side dishes and more! And the best part was that I learned how to make food that my entire family would eat.
Because when it comes to picky eaters, I’ve got three of them (yes, my husband is part of that list). So I totally relate to you and feel your pain if you’re dealing with the same. Trust me, I do. And even if you’re not, the fact that you’re reading this tells me I can relate to you. Because you are here to make yummy things and maybe you’re ready to try something new. It doesn’t have to start out with a cookie (though that is fun), but I hope you enjoy your creative food journey all the same.
To the kitchen!
