Ingredients

  • 5 cups sliced, pared and cored apples sliced into ¼ inch thickness (use Honeycrisp or Gala for the sweetest flavor)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour spooned and leveled into measuring cup
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup butter (1 stick) melted

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Wash apples; peel the skins. Then use a paring knife to halve and core the apples. Slice them into even-sized slices, aiming for ¼ inch thickness Place the sliced apples into baking dish.
  • Melt the butter in a microwave-safe mixing bowl. Add the flour and stir to combine. Then add the brown sugar and spices; mix well.
  • Sprinkle the topping over the apples.
  • Bake uncovered for 30-35 minutes or until apples are fork-tender and topping is slightly crusty and brown.
  • Let stand 5 minutes before serving. Serve warm as is or with a scoop of your favorite vanilla ice cream.

Notes

Cover with foil or store in an airtight container. Refrigerate for up to 4 days. To reheat, cover with aluminum foil and place in a 325 degree oven for 15-20 minutes or until heated through.
For the best texture in every bite, slice your apples as thin and evenly as possible. Aim for about ¼-inch thick slices. Uniform slices ensure the apples cook at the same rate, so you won't end up with a mix of mushy and undercooked pieces in your cobbler. A mandoline slicer can help you get consistent, thin slices quickly, but a sharp knife and a little patience will also do the trick!
