🧐The Story Behind the Viral TikTok Pasta
If you're wondering why everyone calls this viral TikTok pasta, that's because it became incredibly popular on TikTok back in 2021, and was the most searched recipe that year! But the recipe's fame really started with a Finnish food blogger a few years earlier. It became so incredibly popular that grocery stores literally ran out of feta cheese!
The internet quickly fell in love with how a simple block of cheese and a pint of cherry tomatoes could bake into a rich, restaurant-quality sauce. Once you try this easy recipe, you'll understand why!
✅Elegant Enough for Sunday, Easy Enough for a Weeknight
This baked dish has the gorgeous, rustic presentation you want for a fancy weekend meal, but it's truly a quick and easy dinner designed for your busiest nights. You don't have to stand over a hot stove stirring complicated sauces. Just let the oven do the heavy lifting, and in less than 45 minutes, you'll have a cozy and delicious meal that will have everyone scraping the bowl clean!

😍Why This Feta Pasta TikTok Recipe Works Every Time
The real magic of this foolproof feta pasta TikTok recipe lies in how the high oven heat transforms basic ingredients into gourmet edible treasures. While the original recipe was certainly delicious, my version uses half the typical amount of tomatoes, along with a little less olive oil, to cut down on the sharp acidity and some of the fat. The remaining tomatoes still burst to create a sweet, savory juice that perfectly balances the melted feta, herbs, and olive oil, giving you a luxurious, creamy sauce with a little less guilt.
🥘Just 9 Basic Ingredients Needed

- cherry or small grape tomatoes - Roasting small tomatoes allows them to burst and release their sweet, natural juices, creating a rich and flavorful base for this viral pasta sauce.
- fresh garlic - Baking fresh garlic directly in the pan infuses the dish with a mellow, roasted garlic flavor that perfectly balances the tanginess of the cheese.
- extra virgin olive oil - High-quality extra virgin olive oil helps roast the vegetables and emulsifies with the melted cheese to form a luxuriously creamy sauce.
- salt, pepper, & red pepper flakes - This simple trio of spices enhances the savory notes of the dish while adding a subtle, customizable kick of heat to the rich feta.
- block of Greek feta cheese - Using a full block of feta cheese rather than crumbles ensures it bakes into a velvety, smooth consistency that effortlessly coats every noodle. When you use Greek feta made from sheep's milk (as opposed to cow's milk), you get a much smoother sauce.
- bowtie pasta - Bowtie pasta is the ideal choice for this baked feta pasta recipe because its pinched center and grooved edges perfectly catch and hold the thick, chunky tomato sauce.

🔪How To Make TikTok Feta Pasta

- Step 1: Arrange tomatoes and garlic in casserole dish; pour in olive oil and seasonings.

- Step 2: Add the feta cheese block to the center; flip to coat; sprinkle more crushed red pepper on top.

- Step 3: Bake for 30 minutes; then raise the heat and bake for 10 more minutes.

- Step 4: While feta is baking, cook noodles to al dente. When tomatoes and feta are finished, stir together to make a sauce. Add cooked noodles and fresh basil; stir to coat and serve.
For step-by-step instructions, see the printable recipe card below.
Hint: Make sure your casserole dish isn't too large (I don't recommend any larger than 3 qt.)! You want the tomatoes packed snugly around the feta so their natural juices pool together to create a creamy sauce, rather than drying up and evaporating in a pan that's too big.
🌿Healthy Ingredient Substitutions
- Swap regular pasta for chickpea or lentil pasta - This is a super easy way to sneak extra plant-based protein and fiber into your dinner, keeping everyone full and satisfied much longer than standard white pasta.
- Swap full-fat feta for reduced-fat feta or goat cheese - You can easily grab a block of light feta to cut down on calories. Alternatively, a block of goat cheese melts beautifully and offers a tangier flavor while generally being a bit easier to digest!
📖Easy Viral TikTok Pasta Recipe Variations
- Swap the feta for Boursin cheese - If you want a milder flavor, swap the feta for a block of garlic and herb Boursin cheese. It melts down into an incredibly smooth, savory sauce without the signature tang of feta, making it a massive crowd-pleaser!
- Toss in extra protein - Make this dish even heartier by stirring in some cooked shredded rotisserie chicken, sliced smoked sausage, or even sautéed shrimp right at the end when you mix in the noodles.
- Sneak in some spinach - For a quick boost of greens, fold a couple of handfuls of fresh baby spinach into the hot baking dish right after pulling it from the oven. The residual heat will wilt the spinach perfectly into the sauce in seconds.

- colander
🍶Storing Viral TikTok Pasta
In the Fridge: Store any leftover pasta in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 to 4 days.
How to Reheat: The baked feta sauce will naturally thicken up quite a bit as it cools in the fridge. When you're ready to eat, simply add a quick splash of water or milk to your bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals. Give it a good stir, and the sauce will become perfectly creamy all over again!
Can you freeze it? I highly recommend enjoying this dish fresh! Freezing is not ideal because the dairy in the feta can separate and become grainy, and the cooked pasta will likely turn mushy once thawed.

👍Top Tip For This TikTok Feta Pasta Recipe
Make sure to boil your pasta only until it is al dente (still slightly firm to the bite). As soon as you drain the noodles, give them a quick rinse under cold water. This instantly stops the cooking process and ensures your pasta holds its shape perfectly instead of turning to mush when you toss it into that hot, bubbling baked feta sauce!
❓Feta Pasta TikTok Recipe FAQ
I highly recommend using a full block of feta cheese for this recipe. The block retains more moisture and melts much more smoothly, whereas crumbles can dry out in the oven and leave your sauce feeling a bit grainy.
Short, textured pasta shapes with grooves or pockets are the absolute best for this dish! I love using bowtie (farfalle), cavatappi, or rotini because they perfectly catch and hold onto that thick, creamy tomato and feta sauce so you get flavor in every single bite.
Not all feta is created equal! Traditional Greek feta made from sheep's milk tends to melt into the creamiest sauce. Cow's milk feta can sometimes be a bit more stubborn and retain its crumbly texture. Also, make sure you don't skimp on the olive oil, as it helps emulsify the cheese into a smooth sauce!
Yes! If you aren't a fan of tomatoes, you can swap them out for chopped bell peppers, zucchini, or sliced mushrooms. Just toss your veggies of choice in olive oil and roast them around the feta block exactly the same way you would with the tomatoes.
