A modern twist on the classic Ants on a Log celery snack, Bumps on a Log, with hummus and pretzels, is healthier and more delicious (dare we say, even better?). Plus it's peanut-free.

Ready in just a few minutes, this savory stuffed celery snack is perfect for after school or to satisfy an afternoon craving.
Simply use your favorite hummus to fill celery sticks and optional bell pepper crowns, and top with sea salt pretzel rounds. It's seriously that simple.
Kids like helping to make this snack, which is lower in fat and calories than the traditional Ants on a Log with peanut butter and raisins. We call this Bumps on a Log to be funny, but it actually is appropriately descriptive...don't you think?

🥘Ingredients
- Celery Sticks (the logs)
- Pepper Crowns (the frogs, caterpillars, stegosauruses or whatever you envision!)--optional, but extra fun!
- Hummus- flavored hummus provides added flavor
- Snyder's Pretzel Rounds (Sea Salt Flavor)
See recipe card for quantities.
🔪Instructions
- Slice celery sticks (and optional pepper crowns) so they are 3-4 inches long.
- Use a small spoon to fill the celery with hummus.
- Place the pretzel rounds on top, roughly ¼ inch apart.
Hint: Place the pretzels on just before serving. They will eventually get soggy on top of the hummus.
🥣Substitutions
Pretzels: Some readers have shared that it's difficult finding pretzel rounds. The best alternative is using mini pretzels. Stick the pretzels halfway into the hummus so the two top bumps stick out the top.
Hummus: Use your favorite hummus flavor. Our favorites for this stuffed celery snack are roasted red pepper and everything hummus.
📖Variations
We realize the following options aren't as healthy, but they're fun and oh so tasty.
Bumps on a snowy log: Instead of hummus, use cream cheese.
Bumps on a sandy log: Instead of hummus, use a spreadable cheese.
Bumps on a muddy log: Instead of hummus, use Nutella.
🍽Equipment
- cutting board
- chef's knife
- plates and spoons
🍶Storage
Store in an airtight container and refrigerate. Enjoy within one day.
Remove the pretzels before storing so they don't get soggy.
💭Top tip
Ensure celery stalks and pepper cavities are completely dry before filling, so the filling sticks.
🗨️FAQ
Yes! Made from chickpeas, hummus contains protein and fiber. Hummus is calorie dense though, so not over stuffing the celery sticks is advised. Celery contains fiber and water, and is a good source of Vitamin K.

- Enjoy immediately, or cover and chill.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 1 day. Keep refrigerated and remove pretzels before storing.
