Creamy Feta Dressing is a versatile homemade sauce with subtle Mediterranean flavor. Made from a block of feta cheese and Greek yogurt, this protein and calcium rich dressing is perfect for tossed salads, raw veggies, fruit, roasted veggies, and so much more. If you love feta cheese, this savory dressing is for you!

dressing

This delicious recipe came about as a happy accident (no, not the baby kind 😄). In my several attempts to make whipped feta (which, by the way, is absolutely wonderful), I ended up with a saucy and very tasty feta dressing!

Creamy feta dressing is a total gamechanger and elevates so many dishes. It has all the best parts of feta (saltiness, tanginess, and goodness) in sauce form. Slightly thick, it can be used as both a simple dip and as a vinaigrette.

Think of every amazing dish that crumbled or cubed feta makes better (Chickpea Cucumber Salad or Veggie Hummus Wraps, anyone?), then imagine drizzling that dish with a creamy feta sauce accented with fresh garlic, lemon, and dill.

If you're into feta as much as we are, you will absolutely savor this incredible dressing. Once you try it, there will be no going back!

👪Why you'll love it

Easy to make- Add the ingredients to a food processor and blend until smooth. That's it!

Wholesome ingredients- Unlike bottled dressings, there's no artificial anything in this recipe and NO high fructose corn syrup--just simple ingredient goodness.

Versatile- Enjoy creamy feta dressing on your favorite salad or Mediterranean dish. It also makes a great sauce for grilled asparagus, squash, and Seasoned Oven Roasted Potatoes.

🥘Ingredients

ingredients
  • block feta cheese- for creamy, smooth results, use a block that comes in brine, rather than crumbled feta, which is much drier due to its anti-caking agent coating
  • freshly squeezed lemon juice- for preservative purposes, flavor, and acidity; avoid bottled
  • whole milk plain Greek yogurt- this full fat strained yogurt is essential for creaminess and consistency
  • extra virgin olive oil- use a good quality olive oil for flavor depth
  • fresh garlic clove- used for its strong, aromatic flavor
  • fresh dill (not pictured)- for aromatic flavor and a pop of color

See recipe card for quantities.

🔪Instructions

feta and lemon
  1. Step 1: Add feta block and lemon juice to processor; pulse until smooth.
whipped with oil, yogurt, and minced garlic
  1. Step 2: Add the yogurt, followed by the olive oil and minced garlic; pulse until smooth. Stir in dill.

Hint: Creamy feta dressing tastes best after being refrigerated for 12 hours (you'll want an airtight storage container, such as a mason jar). This gives a chance for the flavors to meld.

📖Variations

  • Spicy - add 1 teaspoon red pepper or Aleppo pepper flakes to the dressing for a spicy kick
  • Sweet - add 1 teaspoon honey for a little natural sweetness
  • Aromatic - add some fresh parsley or oregano along with the dill for added flavor

See Creamy Dijon Sauce for another great recipe that pairs well with veggies!

🍽Equipment

  • 4 cup or larger food processor
  • citrus juicer and sieve
  • measuring cups
  • garlic press
  • cutting board and chef's knife

🍶Storage

Store Creamy Feta Dressing in an airtight container (a sealed mason jar works well) and keep refrigerated for up to 5 days. Dressing will thicken as it refrigerates; see Top tip below.

This recipe isn't suitable for freezing.

💭Top tip

When adding the feta block to the processor, it's okay if a little brine (1-2 tsp) from the packaging works its way in too.

A lot of recipes suggest adding water to feta dressing to thin the consistency. While that can be helpful, I suggest waiting to add water until ready to enjoy. You may find that the consistency is right where you want it to be (especially since we use juice from an entire lemon) and no water is needed.

Creamy feta dressing will thicken slightly in the fridge. Stir it before serving, and then add water (1 teaspoon at a time) if needed to reach your desired consistency.

🗨️FAQ

What mixes well with feta?

This is a versatile sauce that pairs well with many fruits and vegetables. In the summer, it's delicious drizzled over melon chunks (especially watermelon and cantaloupe). It's also wonderful with roasted vegetables (asparagus, carrots, and potatoes) as well as over salad greens.

What is the difference between feta and Greek feta?

Traditional Greek feta is typically saltier and tangier, with notes of citrus flavor.

Is feta goat or cow milk?

Traditional feta is made from sheep's or goat's milk. Most of the feta sold outside of Europe, however, is made from cow's milk.
