👪Why you'll love this Dijon sauce recipe
| Easy, make ahead recipe- Creamy Dijon Sauce is so simple to make. Unlike most Dijon sauces out there, there's no heavy whipping cream to contend with. You literally mix the 5 ingredients with a spoon in one microwave safe bowl (to make life easier), heat it right away, or chill it and heat later. That's it! Simple ingredients- This recipe uses light sour cream for a tangy cream base, which then gets mixed with 4 other staple ingredients, including crushed red pepper for a little extra kick. There's no onion to chop and no butter to melt. This one is easy peasy. Very versatile & kid approved- Creamy Dijon mustard sauce can elevate any meal in the snap of a finger! From pork tenderloins and steaks, to chicken cutlets and potatoes, this peppy sauce pairs well with them all! And having that little dip cup sure does work wonders with kids. When they can dip it, they're more likely to eat it! |

🥘Ingredients
- light sour cream- this is the tangy, creamy base--not need to use full fat. I recommend Daisy's or Breakstone's.
- red wine vinegar- provides a fruity essence and also acts as a preservative
- Dijon mustard- much more flavorful and smooth than plain yellow mustard, and definitely the best choice for this sauce. I recommend Grey Poupon.
- sugar- slightly elevates the sweetness and counteracts the tang just enough
- crushed red pepper or Aleppo pepper- the extra pep in the step with this sauce, and you don't need a lot
See recipe card for quantities.
🔪Instructions

- Step 1: Place all of the ingredients in a microwave safe bowl; mix.

- Step 2: Cover and chill for later, or, cover and heat in the microwave for about 2 minutes. Stir and enjoy!
Hint: You don't need much crushed red pepper. I typically use about ¼ teaspoon. Keep in mind that the Dijon mustard already has a spicy vibe!
🥣Substitutions
- mustard- use honey mustard or yellow mustard for a different flavor profile
- sour cream- use whole milk Greek yogurt instead
- vinegar- use apple cider vinegar instead of red wine vinegar

- measuring cups
- measuring spoons
- mixing spoon or whisk

🍶Storage
Store Creamy Dijon Sauce in an airtight container and keep toward the back of your fridge (recommended for most foods containing dairy products). Use within one week.
Because of the sour cream, freezing isn't recommended.
Reheat in the microwave at 50% power in 30 second intervals. Stir before serving.
💭Top tip
Light sour cream actually works better in this recipe than full fat because it has a slightly thinner consistency.
🗨️FAQ
You can, but it will change the flavor profile. Dijon is more complex and pungent, while yellow mustard is sharper and more acidic. If you make the swap, start with a 3:4 ratio (use a little less yellow mustard) and add a pinch of black pepper to mimic Dijon’s heat.
Freezing is not recommended for this specific recipe. Because it uses a base of sour cream, the sauce will likely separate or become grainy once thawed. For the best texture, keep it in the fridge for up to one week and give it a good stir after reheating.
The trick is low and slow! To reheat, use the microwave at 50% power in 30-second intervals, stirring in between. If you’re using the stovetop, keep the heat on medium-low and whisk constantly. If it looks too thick after chilling, stir in a teaspoon of water or milk to bring back that silky consistency.
This sauce is incredibly versatile. It’s a classic pairing for chicken breasts, pork tenderloin, and roasted salmon. For a casual twist, use it as a dip for air-fried potatoes or as a zesty spread for ham and Swiss sliders.
